#120 glowing bales

End of the day in the summer is such a great time to paint. I went out twice at the same time to paint these. On the third day, they were gone!

#119 Sunflowers 1

Lately I've been leaving more of the underpainting visible--only painting what's necessary.

#117 Giant Rhode

Painted on site on a  wonderful spring day in the Virginia countryside.  Seems funny to think that it was actually kind of cold that day, but the rhododendron bush didn't seem to mind.

#116 Sidewalk closed

Although I was excited to put figures in my painting during a day painting in town, this color relationship appealed even more than the people passing by.

#115 Angel iris

More flower paintings, while they last. Actually, they are going down fast now. In this painting, it was a surprise to see an angel iris--but it doesn't surprise me as they are such heavenly flowers!

#114 Orchid flow

I set this up so the orchids on the left would get a full dose of light. I wanted to keep the shadow colors as light as possible to maximize their delicacy.

#111 Spring on Dogwood Lane

#110 field trees in April

Enjoyed using big brushes for just about all strokes in this painting. I find that I really don't need small brushes, except to sign my name on the bottom of the painting.

#108 Cherry blooms

It's always a pleasure to see the colors stand out against all of the green. These shades of violet became the subject of my painting.

The whole environment seemed to move with the man and his dog in this evening scene at the poppy field.

#106 Thinking it over

One of those blooming days only in Spring; when a screen of color seems to hang in the air.

#105 Morning fireworks

This is one from an early morning outing with my dog. The cool blue shadow colors of his white fur and the cast shadows on the field blended together well.

#104 before the interview

It has been fun seeing what happens with the final painting when working from a value sketch. Usually it is quite similar in mood; this time something different appeared.

#103 Boxed in

I am planning to post figure paintings in 2016, especially during the winter. Having a four hour session featuring one pose allows time for planning out the value pattern in the final piece. .
